Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) established in 2006 at Ludhiana is a premier institution for dissemination of Veterinary, Agriculture and Allied education and research knowledge thus promoting livestock production, health and prevention of the diseases through integrated teaching, research and extension programmes and has attained many laurels nationally and internationally. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Farm Science Centre) is an innovative district level science based institution engaged in transfer of latest agricultural technologies to the farming community for bridging the gap between production and productivity. The KVK of GADVASU dominates animal husbandry activities -training, demonstrations and on-farm trial programs for making use of animal science technologies by the livestock owners. University with the multidisciplinary approach and demand driven research is endeavoring for upliftment of socio-economic status of the farming community of the district through scientific intervention in the veterinary, agricultural and allied sectors. ICAR sanctioned Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Booh, Tarn Taran in December 2011 under the administrative control of GADVASU, Ludhiana, Punjab for the benefit of farmers of border district of Tarn Taran.
KVK, Tarn Taran is playing a tremendous role, to improve the economic profile of farmers, rural youth and farm women by means of conducting demonstrations, organizing training courses and On farm Research trials related to livestock, agriculture, fisheries and allied sciences. KVK is working broadly in the field of animal husbandry agriculture and allied activities including natural resource management, horticulture related activities, crop residue management, value addition of agriculture and livestock related produce, water conservation, diversification in agriculture and livestock farming, also imparting training to the rural youth for entrepreneurship development through scientific Dairy, Pig, Poultry, Fisheries, Goat, Honey Bee Farming and Mushroom Cultivation. KVK is also focusing to improve the production potential of Nili Ravi buffaloes native of this district along with Murrah buffaloes, Sahiwal cow and Beetal goat production.
These extension services provides a platform for the better organization of the farming community into more functional and action oriented groups which helps the fellow farmers in better and )quick access to essential production resources like technical knowledge and inputs, information on government sponsored development programmes, credit facilities and marketing infrastructure. Thus, KVK is serving as a knowledge power house by inducing its efforts for need based technology transfer to the farmers particularly in the light of changing climatic scenario of the country.
