Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barnala  working under the ageis of  Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana since January 2012, is located in village Handiaya 7-8 Km away from Barnala in west direction at longitude 75° 29′ 29.10″E latitude 30° 19’ 1.38”N.. However it became functional from April 2014 after appointment of staff. 


Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barnala is a district level multi disciplinary institute/organization meant for application of technology through assessment, refinement & demonstration of proven technologies under different micro farming situation in a district & serve as repository of scientific knowledge that is useful to the entire district. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barnala will assess & refine the newly released technologies, demonstrate the proven areas and train farmers and extension functionaries on the same.

The main activities of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barnala include; a) On-farm testing to identify the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems, b) Organize Frontline Demonstrations to establish production potential of technologies on the farmers’ fields, c) Training of farmers to update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies, d) Training of extension personnel to orient them in the frontier areas of technology development, e) To work as resource and knowledge centre of agricultural technology for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector for improving the agricultural economy of the district.
To impart the technology transfer effectively, the KVK has developed close linkages with Department of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry, Department of Fisheries, Department of Soils, Department of Horticulture, and other line departments, Non-Government and voluntary agencies in the district in particular and at State and national level in general.
