Five-Day Training Programme on “Smart Farming Technologies” Concludes at KVK Barnala

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Barnala successfully organised a five-day vocational training programme on “Smart Farming Technologies” from 23 to 29 July 2026 for farmers, rural youth, and agricultural entrepreneurs under the Chairmanship of Dr. Prahalad Singh Tanwar, Associate Director (Trg.) KVK, Barnala. The programme aimed to create awareness and build practical skills on modern digital technologies for sustainable and profitable farming.
During the programme, participants were provided hands-on exposure to various smart farming technologies, including precision nutrient management, sensor-based irrigation scheduling. mobile-based farm advisory services, weather-based crop management, use of drones in agriculture, protected cultivation, digital soil testing, farm mechanisation tools, precision dairy farming etc.
Dr. Suryendra Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) and experts from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana emphasised that smart farming technologies can help farmers reduce input costs, improve water and nutrient use efficiency, enhance crop and animal productivity, and minimise environmental impacts. Special sessions were also conducted on organic and sustainable farming practices integrated with digital technologies.
Throughout the five days, practical demonstrations and field visits were organised to familiarise participants with modern farm equipment, precision farming tools, and ICT-based agricultural services. Farmers actively interacted with scientists and discussed field-level problems related to crop production, irrigation, nutrient management, pest management and animal production.
Experts highlighted that adoption of smart farming technologies is essential for ensuring climate-resilient agriculture and improving farm income in the changing agricultural scenario. He encouraged participants to act as resource persons in their villages and promote scientific farming practices among fellow farmers.
A total of 18 participants from different villages of Barnala and Bathinda districts attended the programme.
