Mr. Amrit Singh, 36, is a graduate small farmer resident of the village of Wahegurupura in the district Barnala, Punjab. He has two cows and three buffaloes, as well as 14 acres of agricultural land.

Technology Demonstrated

(a)    Organic farming practices, intercropping systems.

(b)   Organic solid and liquid fertilisers [prepartiob, beekeeping and mushroom production.

(b)   Conducted OFTs and FLD on various technologies under organic farming condition by the KVK at his farm.

Success Point  

:

(a)    Crop diversification and value addition of organic farm produce.

(b)   Sale value added organic farm produce like sarson as a green leafy vegetable, saag (cooked sarson leaves), and oil. Sugarcane canes, flavoured jaggery and turmeric in seed and powder form. Honey and mushrooms are sold after processing in Barnala city every Saturday through an outlet started by an organic farmers’ group.

(c)    Production and selling of seedlings in nursery.

Outcome

:

He earns an average net income of Rs. 101000/- annually with a production cost of Rs. 36000 per acre from organic farming, as compared to Rs. 83000 as an average net income from rice-wheat monocropping under conventional high-input agriculture. Along with this, he also sells organic vegetable seeds, and gets about a net income of Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 annually. Now he has started a medicinal, aromatic, fruit and vegetable seedling nursery and earns 1.0 to 1.5 lakhs with a gross income of Rs 5.0 to 6.0 lakhs per annum in addition to his organic farm.
